As a choreographer, performer and improviser I create solo projects and also collaborate with visual artists, digital media artists and musicians. My interest lies in the pure physicality of the body and the understanding of its functioning, the relationship of human movement and the surrounding world. Through this understanding I investigate the social, ecological and political meanings of the moving or still body in space.

I work with site‐specific projects, creating both the outdoor projects in cities, rural areas and in nature, and in nontraditional indoor spaces such as museums or libraries. I use limited – nevertheless inspiring – spaces to develop new movement, visual and audio possibilities, playing with three dimensional use of the space involving climbing and investigating contact with the objects and materials that are found there.

In my site‐specific projects I often involve local communities usually drawing the movement material from the daily gestures of the inhabitants of the chosen city, introducing contemporary dance and art to people who normally have little previous experience with the performing arts.

Multidisciplinary Collaborations

Biscoe Bitterova Project

BBP, which brings together the creative talents of Jana Bitterova and Ian Biscoe (visual artist, producer, designer and engineer), are developing new performance and choreographic practice employing advances in digital sensing and projection technology. We are currently investigating an approach to communication between visual artists and dance artists in an improvised live performance context.

Bridge to Everywhere: 234 (Most kamkoliv: 234)

Multimediální Network představení používající nejnovější technologie a spojující tanec, živou i předem nahranou hudbu a projekci vizuálních obrazů.

Produkce, vizuální umění a technologie: Ian Biscoe
Choreografie: Jana Bitterová

Premiéra: 22. 3. 2016, New World Symphony, Miami

Představení proběhlo 22. března 2016 v New World Symphony v Miami Beach jako součást konference Network Performing Arts Production Workshop. Ve stejnou dobu vystupovali tanečníci v Havaně a hudebníci v další lokaci v LightBox – Miami Light Project v Miami Wynwood. Video a audio bylo přenášeno přes internet, takže se umělci ze třech míst stali součástí jednoho představení v New World Symphony.

Tanečníci v Havaně, členové souboru současného tance Compañía Rosario Cárdenas a bubeníci Dennys Papacho Savon a Eduardo Rodriguez, absolventi kubánské konzervatoře, se setkali s miamskými tanečníky ve virtuálním světě, v obrovské projekci na 7,000 čtverečních stop velkém promítacím plátně Wallcast budovy New World Symphony. Projekce sestávala z videí v přímém přenosu a abstraktních vizuálních obrazů Iana Biscoe, které odrážely architekturu, historii, současnost a emoce Miami Beach a Havany.

Coexistence

Collaborative project with singer and composer Ivana Mer.

What does it mean to coexist? Sound and movement coexist in our artistic expression just as different elements of air, water, earth or fire coexist in nature. Composing in the present moment we lead diverse components to coexist so that a new and surprising complexity is born.

Framed Silence

Site Specific Performance in the Library of Falmouth University.

Exploring the Silent Study Area of the library, we have created the piece drawn from the special ambiance of the place, where the curiosity meets high concentration. Framed by silence, the voices of books, vinyl and bodies compose a playful music to be seen and heard.

Composer & Performer: Helen Moor
Choreographers & Performers: Jana Bitterova, Cacilia Heinze

Falmouth, December 2015.

3:1 for Changing Room

A music and dance collaboration using materials commonly found in a changing room. We have created a hybrid of audibly resultant movement and ‘hydrated’ themes. You will see a changing room utilised in a quirky and enjoyable way; the blurring of boundaries between artistic disciplines.
